How's your self talk these days? Most people have some really ugly self chatter.
What if one of your friends talked to you the same way you talk to yourself?
Hmmm...probably wouldn't be friends with them. Right?
Okay, now think about this....you are a role model for anyone you cross paths with including the younger generations. Ooof.
If your mind/body/soul connection isn't balanced, how will you model for anyone else?
First things, first. Take care of you (or are you too busy taking care of everyone else?).
For some, one of the hardest things to do is look in the mirror and say to the reflecting image, "I love you."
I asked my teens to do this recently in the mirrors at my home studio and one of the teens looked at me like I kicked her puppy! She was mortified. And, I love puppies so.....It was a hard exercise, but it's gotta start here.
While I won't go into the depths of anxiety and stress in this article, I will mention this:
Your nervous system is part of this equation and it needs to be tended to, or it's going to revolt! Trust me...it happened to me (gall stones, surgeries, digestive issues, pain and more) and I swore 25 years ago that I would continue to search for tools to support it AND share those tools with others so they don't have to experience a nervous system revolt! It's horrible.
What does the nervous system have to do with your inner environment? Let me briefly share.
We are bombarded with stressors all day long and our nervous system (the autonomous part) reacts to each stressor without us realizing it. Bells go off, hormones get released and then the reaction is over. BUT....BUT.....THEN....we THINK about that stressor, ruminate about it even and our nervous system doesn't realize, as we are reliving the experience through conversation and thought, that the actual stressor is not happening again. It only happened once but we keep thinking and talking about it so the bells and hormones get released again. And, again. Eventually our nervous system gets overloaded and we get aches and pains and all kinds of things because the bells and hormones are tired and need support. See where I am going?
If this doesn't make you want to help your inner environment (mind, body, soul connection) then......
So, how do we take care of this situation?
Some things to consider:
We need down time. Time to process the day quietly (and I don't mean watching tv with a glass of wine). I mean review your day and think about each situation quietly. No judgment. Just review and let it go. It's over. Quietly, on your own.
Tomorrow is not here yet so there is no need to worry about it. It's going to come and then go. If you know things are coming down the pipeline, you can prepare by planning. What might you do if A, B, or C happens. Once you are prepared, it's out of your hands. Things will shake out they way they are supposed to shake out and you will have handled it with your A, B, or C plan.
Sometimes we need support to shut the chatter down (Chatter is okay if it's positive, btw). Here are some tools I love:
Sound baths (I have plenty of recordings on this website; email info@trebledsouls.com for access)
Spinal network care
Craniosacral
Meditation
Reiki
Breath work
Restorative yoga
Somatic work
Acupuncture
Someone asked me, as a runner, if I thought running counted for relaxation and nervous system support. NO. It does not. Running supports your cardiovascular system and your heart muscle which also needs support, but it's not supporting your nervous system.
So, try one and, see what you think. If you don't resonate with it, try another. You got this! You can do it! I wish you self-love and a great day!
Thank you for this!
